This Blog's Mission

This blog was created on March 30th, 2007 and is about sharing all things ArchiOffice. BQE Software will endeavor to share with it’s customers what’s going on behind the scenes with the development of ArchiOffice. Meanwhile, ArchiOffice customers are encouraged to share their thoughts. BQE will listen and learn.

This site is not for PR or any type of marketing. It’s for an open and honest conversation between BQE and the ArchiOffice community. The purpose is to make ArchiOffice a better product and - in turn - allow our customers to be better Architects.

ArchiOffice Discussion > Staff time: Schedule conflict avoidance

Is there a report that can be generated to determine schedule conflicts for employees working on multiple projects?

The main gist is that often employees will have several projects on the go and the Project Manager/ Partner would benefit from knowing what sort of time constraints they have from other projects / other team leads and adjust deadlines accordingly. If you could help me out with this, it would be much appreciated!

ArchiOffice is not (yet), able to manage resource allocation to the level that an application like Microsoft Project or FastTrack can.

Currently, the best way one can assign hours to employees and projects is through the Project Checklists. However, in ArchiOffice v8, checklists only have an end date. There is no start date. In ArchiOffice 2010, we will be allowing users to set a Start and End Date for checklist tasks - along with an associated budget of hours and dollars. Eventually, we see this leading up to gantt charting in a subsequent upgrade.

What I believe you are looking for is something more general. The ability to look at someone's schedule (in the future), and see which projects they are working on and how much of their day should be associated with each project. Then you can see whether they are overbooked or if they have openings to work on something else. We would all benefit from this. If anyone has a good idea on a simple method for managing this, and can articulate it to us through a Feature Request, we would be more than happy to look into it.

For the time being, this "silver bullet" has been elusive. It must be easy to manage since the minute it becomes out-of-date - the entire house of cards falls down and the data is unreliable.

In the meantime, Microsoft Project or FastTrack, or even an Excel spreadsheet can help.
